Emotional Aesthetics: A One Day Workshop on Transformative Skills

One of the many events that made our ten-day academic orientation camp ‘Insight’ (August 16-26, 2023) memorable was the workshop on Emotional Aesthetics by Muhammed Noushad.

Held on 20th August 2023, the workshop was led by renowned author and facilitator Muhammed Noushad. Mr. Noushad is a distinctive writer and media educator. He has also been an editor, translator and documentary filmmaker. His 14 years of teaching experience in the field of journalism and filmmaking have made him a skilled tutor and an expert in the field. His career in freelance journalism showcases long-form profiles and in-depth interviews with academics, authors, film personalities and community leaders. He has also served as an editor, for more than 10 years, with Other Books, an independent publishing house specializing in Malabar history, gender, mysticism and caste. His workshops offer intense training sessions in creative writing, thinking and in mastering emotional wellbeing.

Emotional Aesthetics is a distinctive residential workshop focused on transformative skill-building. Set in a truly democratic environment, it invites participants to connect with their core values and embrace their inner truths, fostering a deep (re)connection with themselves and others. The workshop offers a safe, non-judgmental space to explore one’s creative potential and emotional depth, opening the way to a transformative reawakening. Designed within an experiential learning framework, it weaves together reflections and discussions to help participants navigate personal beliefs and values. Through art and theater, the workshop empowers attendees to evolve both personally and professionally. By incorporating tools and concepts from self-expressive art, Theatre of the Oppressed, nonviolent communication, Sufism, and Zen, Emotional Aesthetics offers an authentic setting for emotional growth and creative enrichment.

The workshop trained our students at Ibn Al-Haytham Academy to nurture inner awareness and develop deep emotional skills. In addition, the event was a reminder to practice and perfect values of empathy and non-toxicity. The session was notable for Mr. Noushad’s unique way of tutoring that allocated a blend of activities, storytelling and active discussions.
